Although I hail from southeastern Wisconsin — born and raised on Lake Michigan between Milwaukee and Chicago — over the past three decades I have lived in Texas, so I’m sure that now makes me a naturalized Texan. Wisconsin was a great place to grow up, but I certainly don’t miss shoveling snow and the sub-zero temperatures! I remember taking the train to Chicago with my mom when I was a kid to spend the day wandering around the art museums. I always knew art would be my profession.
I graduated from the University of Houston with a BFA in Fine Arts (Visual Communications) and a minor in Family & Consumer Science. For the past 24 years, I have been self-employed as a freelance graphic designer in Houston, Texas, working mainly in the oil and gas industry. My career in graphic design and past work experience with computer-aided design and drafting for a microelectronics company brought me to the intersection of art and technology...and I think that's an exciting place to be these days! The computer geek and artist in me finds that the digital medium perfectly merges my two worlds ― technology and art.
Building on my love of nature and the outdoors, my subject matter is mainly Texas Hill Country wildflowers and plants. As an amateur photographer, I enjoy capturing images of plant life as it is found in its natural environment without disruption or destruction of its habitat. My original photographs form the basis of my digital paintings.Experimenting with my photos and seeing new images emerge from them is always an adventure. After many years spent designing and creating for others, I’m finally creating art for myself…without any specifications or deadlines. I love having the freedom to experiment.
