The Blue Ridge Parkway Calendar produced by Ray's Weather Center has included my images continuously since 2012.
My art is unique; created using cameras, software, digital tools, and/or acrylic paints. Sometimes I start with a photograph; sometimes I start with an idea on the computer; sometimes I paint. My art always begins in my head. It evolves in response to music I hear, the weather, or good vibrations (or maybe something I ate). Each piece is unique. When it is strange or different, I credit my birthplace: I’m a Maine-iac.
I am a member of the Carolina Nature Photographers Association (CNPA) and Kelby Media (formerly the National Association of Photoshop Professionals). I have also joined the Friends of the WNC Nature Center, the North Carolina Arboretum, The Great Smoky Mountains Association, the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, and the Swannanoa Valley Museum because I believe in buying from local people and supporting local causes.
I have over 20 years of experience using Adobe Photoshop and have honed my photography skills with more than 40 years of film and digital camera work.
I started painting with oils in the 1980s, using Bob Ross' techniques. He taught me that 'there are no mistakes; just happy little accidents.' The Asheville Regional Airport featured six of my 20x30 canvas prints and Cheddar’s Restaurant in Asheville purchased 3 prints that are on display in their dining area. My piece, “Leaves in Ice” placed in a CNPA competition called “Abstract Appalachia.” I have received additional awards granted by various organizations and websites including CNPA.
I live in the woods in East Asheville with my wife, Black Bears, raccoon, possum, squirrels, rabbits, deer, and many birds (including turkeys).
