Driving home after work, having spent the day peering at black and white images, my senses are overwhelmed at the world full of so many shades of colour. Every glance outside my car window yields endless possibility. The stimuli strike me relentlessly, and I start thinking of what sort of painting will I compose next? What palette will I use? What will I include? What media will be suitable? The questions are endless, but inspiring. I can’t wait to get started. My canvas in front of me. With my brush in my hand, I start thinking about how best to fill the vast, flat, white, empty canvas with a three dimensional form. Again, contrast comes into play, like the black and white images at work. But this time, I am the one producing something out of nothing, for someone else to interpret and put together. My art will take over now, allowing me to use colour to bridge the monochromatic pictures of my work. Carefully, and meticulously, I begin. A brushstroke here, and one there. Steadily, I start putting it together, mixing my colours and decorating the canvas. My mind races as I work, sometimes slowing me down, sometimes propelling me forwards. Nothing about what I do is random, and every decision must be made carefully. Eventually, the painting takes shape and becomes complete, an image unto itself. I strive to convey the viewer into the scene of my painting so they experience the scent of my florals, hear the rustling of the leaves in my landscapes, feel the chill in my snowscapes and hear the crashing of the waves in my seascapes. My process similar to my previous painting, yes, but never the same. To see more: http://hirjiart.com My name is Jim Howton. I grew up and lived on the outskirts of Birmingham, Alabama for nearly forty years. My background is in computers and I’ve held various jobs over the years, moving from a computer operator after college in 1989 to IT Director in 2006. I moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2006, but I’m still an Alabama football fan. Roll Tide! I always wanted to live closer to the ocean, and after a fairly brief search for jobs I received an offer to work in the gaming industry as a Systems Engineer. I currently live in Ocean Springs, Mississippi and don’t ever see myself wanting to leave the coast! Being raised in the country, I’ve always had a passion for the outdoors and seeing God’s beauty all around. I’ve been taking pictures for many years, but always with cheap cameras, the first of which was a Kodak Disc camera. A few years ago, my son asked for a DSLR for Christmas, and when I saw what it could do, I eventually bought myself one. I started taking a more serious interest in photography after that and now I take pictures everywhere I go and every chance I get. Photography is still just a hobby since work takes up a lot of my time, but I’m always learning and continuously trying to improve. http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/james-howton.html After years shooting panoramas and HDR I have lately started shooting big format panoramic HDR arrangements. Some of them are composed by 20 or 25 pictures and can be printed up to 108” wide, adding a special quality to those images you seldom find in panoramas. Here are some samples from my recent visit to Normandy. Judge for yourselves. In the past few years, I've incorporated my love for all things small and large in the natural world with my passion for photography in hopes of capturing the endless wonders the world has to offer. Through sharing my art, it is my hope that I can help increase awareness of the importance of environmental conservation. www.joy-hardee.artistwebsites.com [email protected] Bio: I paint almost exclusively in acrylic on a variety of surfaces, employing a selection of non-traditional painting tools – many of which I make myself – to achieve tone, texture, scale, substance … and surprise. My technique is primarily spontaneous – where action painting merges with the disciplines of calligraphy and archeology to create art that I hope is contemplative, contemporary and uncontrived. As a photographer, I enjoy giving strong voice to the unobserved, overlooked and unappreciated -- the imperfect, impermanent, incomplete, and unconventional. I'm constantly looking beneath, behind and around the corner. And I'm not above using the latest digital tools to push a concept into the realm of the surreal. But for all the theorizing, formal and conceptual notions, the truth of the matter is that I just love to shoot. I've exhibited extensively and I'm thankful my work has found a home among international collectors. I'm also proud to be one of only 44 international artists featured in Aleatoric Art in the 21st Century. At 240 pages, this coffee table-sized book is the definitive volume on the role of chance in contemporary fine art. Richard Young – FRSA (R Young Art) I am a UK national, born in Yorkshire, in 1961, and now based in North Devon, UK where I have my office and studio. Though I have always had a flair for pencil and chalk drawing, I began oil painting at the age of 12, studied hard and practiced in every spare moment, enjoying early regional competition success and media publicity for my work in the North of England. Fortunately, my tutors recognized my skill and encouraged me to undertake both my Ordinary and Advanced level art exams a few years earlier than my peers, which I passed with the top grades. Being financially driven at that time, in 1983 I graduated in engineering and with a passion to travel, I initially pursued a career as a design consultant with various International design consulting companies, residing primarily in the Middle East. Nevertheless, an artisan at heart, I returned to Commercial Art in 2003 as a semi- professional artist, and have extensively developed my own personal style and technique through exhaustive self-tuition and 'burning' the midnight oil. My artwork can be seen on my website, in numerous galleries, featured in magazine publications and in exhibitions. Several years ago, I was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts. The style of my artwork is modern, yet classical / traditional and occasionally contemporary. The composition and technique I use is influenced and inspired by the realism and romanticism of my favourite post renaissance Masters and their wonderful, timeless masterpieces. Especially Bouguereau... Predominantly figurative, the tendency of my artwork is towards carefully composed anonymity, capturing the emotions and self belief of the subject, rather than characteristic individual representation. The creation of figurative artwork not only depicts the emotions of the artist, it transforms the artist's emotions. Also, it is far easier for all of us to carefully scrutinize figurative artwork and judge its anatomical accuracy, often creating a more personal understanding of specific favourite pieces. My figurative artwork, including portraits and nudes, are occasionally sensual. My dance artwork, including classical and modern ballet, is passionate, moody, dramatic and emotional. My preferred lighting, shading and contrast are dramatic. I simply adore light and am fascinated with its arguably undue influence on any subject. After all, without light, what is art? Unlike the vast majority of past and current artists, I often delve extensively between the extremes of highlights and lowlights in my artwork in a chiaroscuro technique, occasionally minimalist, often leaving the viewer's mind to complete the picture and to add depth. I always strive to create an atmosphere in whatever I produce, at the highest possible quality and using only a knife and a very limited colour palette of oil paint or pastels, occasionally alla prima, mixing only on the canvas! I personally invite all art lovers of the purest form, whether you're an established or prospective client, a corporate buyer, an individual seeking knowledge, or you're simply interested in discovering more about my exclusive artwork, to come into my world, enjoy my finest works, and find out more. Whether you're a collector, you appreciate the creativity and value of fine art, or you're simply an admirer of skilful and talented visual arts, purchasing, owning and living with an original artistic creation is an exciting and extremely personal experience, be it a figure study, dancer, musician, a portrait, or any other form of painting or print. It is also both satisfying and fulfilling, a way of seeing the world differently, seeing yourself differently, opening and challenging your thoughts to a different perspective and wider dimension, arousing your senses and stimulating your mind, let alone uniquely transforming an area of your home to one that you can truly be proud of. Art should be viewed, pondered, admired, exhibited, proudly displayed, carefully scrutinized, and in order to benefit to the fullest extent possible, it should be understood from the perspective of its creator - the professional artist. This is obviously not always quite as simple as it seems, though if a viewer has similar feelings to me about art, he or she will connect with my artwork and better understand me. Art is a thing of beauty, not just an investment. My website, galleries that display my artwork, and exhibitions, should be a friendly and enjoyable place to look at some of my artwork, irrespective of whether you are interested in purchasing a piece.
